Research Chairs:

Research chairs indeed represent qualitative leap in the knowledge society, as they are considered major supporters and strong tributaries for the development and support of the scientific movement and the advancement of knowledge endeavors. The conduct of accurate scientific studies should be carried out by specialized research bodies. Research chairs are distinguished by being specialized in a specific and clear field. It plays an active role in addressing many issues that require specialized and accurate research. it contributes in serving various economic and social issues, and provides solutions to many problems in those and other aspects based on accurate scientific research vision.

Given this perspective, the King Saud University Council approved, in its sixth session (Decision No. 4) held on 4/1/1428 AH corresponding to 4/18/2007 AD, the launch of the "Research Chairs Program", and based on the powers vested in it according to the regulations of the Council of Higher Education and Universities in issuing University bylaws. The executive regulations clarify the controls governing the work of research chairs, represented by the Deanship and the Vice Deanship of Scientific Research for Research Chairs in accordance with its vision of “excellence in scientific research to build a knowledge society”, and its mission- “to strengthen the management of the scientific research system, and to produce innovative research that serves the community, according to the best international quality standards, Through building a supportive administration, strengthening evaluation mechanisms, performance measurement and effective community and global partnerships.

 

Fields and Classifications:

 

The number of research chairs at King Saud University has reached 75 research chairs that are distributed over a number of main research areas (Figure 1) which contains various disciplines and the details are  as follows:
